Up-cycle Your Furniture with Interclamp Fittings
Using Interclamp B34 fittings and B34 galvanised tube, one of our crafty customers has been transforming old pine doors and scaffold boards into bespoke tables and stools. We love seeing creative reuse in action, and we’re excited to share this idea with you.
(Big thanks to Lowther Furniture for sharing the photos and inspiration!)
Why you should be up-cycling
- Sustainability: Instead of discarding old timber, you give it a new lease of life.
- Uniqueness: Your furniture is one-of-a-kind, full of character.
- Cost-effectiveness: Repurposing materials cuts down costs compared to buying all new furniture!
- Strength & Durability: With the right fittings (like Interclamp), your creations remain robust and stable.
How to create your own up-cycled furniture
Here’s a simple process to follow:
- Select your reclaimed wood: old doors, scaffold planks or pallet boards - anything with potential. Make sure it’s structurally sound and dry.
- Trim to your desired sizes (tabletop, legs, supports). Sand, plane or finish the timber as desired.
- Plan your frame: Use Interclamp fittings and galvanised tube to build the skeletal structure for strong and repeatable connections.
- Fit tubes into the clamps to construct legs, stretchers and support elements.
- Secure your wood panels or boards to the frame by either screwing or glueing or a combination.
- Apply paint, stain or varnish to finish off your project. Or leave the wood raw, if that matches your style.
Design ideas & inspiration
- Coffee table: use a reclaimed door for the top, scaffold boards for supports and clamps to construct a box frame
- Bench or stool
- Shelving: use clamps to create upright posts and shelf brackets
- Console table: narrow depth but long length, ideal for hallways or entryways
Give it a go yourself, and don’t forget to share your photos of your up-cycled projects with us - we always love seeing what our customers are up to. And who knows, we might feature you next!
